Cold-start problems can be related to battery condition, fuel mixture, ignition components, engine sensors, glow plugs on diesel engines or low compression.
A small amount of white vapor during cold startup can be normal condensation. Persistent thick white smoke after the engine reaches operating temperature can indicate coolant entering the combustion chamber.
